About Beachglass

Almost everyone who has ever walked along a seashore has appreciated and marveled at the ceaseless power and beauty of the natural forces of water, wind and waves. Whether a gentle sugar sand beach or a wild, boulder-strewn rocky outcropping into the ocean, the treasures found at the water's edge have fascinated children and "grownups" alike - colored pebbles, shells, glass, driftwood, seaweed, sealife and all the bits of flotsam that wash in and out with the tides.

Living in the Pacific Northwest, Patricia seeks out remote beaches. With a discerning, sharply trained eye she finds and selects broken glass, worn smooth and translucent from the natural pounding forces of the waves and sand. Each piece is found in just the size, shape, and color as you see it in her original, unique, one-of-a-kind jewelry.

The original glass was most commonly glass telephone insulators, apothecary bottles, 7-Up bottles, Noxema and Vicks jars, Milk of Magnesia bottles, Coca-Cola bottles, beer bottles and old canning jars. Over many years, the tides and sand have worn the broken glass down to perfect, smooth surfaces.

Recycled by the forces of nature, the old glass has a new dimension, something very different from the original broken glass. It has the playfulness of the child's delight at its bright sparkle in the sun, the mystery of its origin and history, and the beauty and feel of its cool, soft translucent shapes and colors.
